This is my face at discovering that the TTC tunnels between Eglinton West and St George got 5G cellular service at some point, and I never noticed until now because my old phone was 4G only. On the one hand, more possibilities for distractions when I take the TTC, on the other hand this probably spells the end of the quiet comedy of watching people be on a phone call¹ as the southbound train pulls out of Eglinton West.

¹ I was going to say 'be on their phones', but that's ambiguous these days.

@cks it was just a couple weeks ago! though I didn't notice it is only 5G since I've had a 5G capable phone for a while, that's interesting.

@lillian If it's only a couple of weeks ago it's possible it's 4G as well. I last rode the TTC on Nov 10th and Nov 24th, but I can't swear I was paying close attention to whether my (old) phone had service because I'm so used to no service in the tunnels. But it might make sense for a recent new service to be 5G only, if most vaguely modern phones support it.

(My old phone was not vaguely modern, it was from 2016.)

@cks I was there today and checked - not only do they have 4G but also 3G!
