This is my face at discovering that the TTC tunnels between Eglinton West and St George got 5G cellular service at some point, and I never noticed until now because my old phone was 4G only. On the one hand, more possibilities for distractions when I take the TTC, on the other hand this probably spells the end of the quiet comedy of watching people be on a phone call¹ as the southbound train pulls out of Eglinton West.

¹ I was going to say 'be on their phones', but that's ambiguous these days.

I probably could have gotten away with biking to work today, but there was just enough of a dusting of granular snow/ice pellets on the side roads in my area to make me twitchy about it. I've had bad experiences before with very thin layers of snow/etc on roads; they can be surprisingly close to glare ice in effects.

Oh well. There will be other biking commutes this year (hopefully). And now I can distract myself more than ever before on the TTC.

Due to @lillian investigating¹, I/we now know that the new TTC phone service is 5G, 4G, and even 3G (and was added only in the past couple of weeks). Apparently it covers all cellular providers (although the work is being done by Rogers²). Full tunnel coverage is expected by some time in 2026. Allegedly. (In the Eglinton Crosstown? Who knows. Wait for it to open before asking about cellular service.)
